A Letter Lost in Time

Yesterday's incident made me remember the letter which my ex had left on my computer last December. When I opened it, I just scanned it and did not read it entirely because I know it's his usual lies again. When we broke up, I still reassured him that we could still retain our friendship (he was my bestfriend before we entered our relationship). But two or three months later, I could still see on him the reasons why I broke up with him -- his self-centeredness, selfishness, and feigning sensitivity to the needs of others though it's very obvious that all he care for is himself. Then we had our one last fight, and the letter was left in my computer around 3 or 4 am in the morning before he left our apartment. After which I had made my decision to entirely left him and finally breaking our friendship. It's at tough choice for me leaving him behind. But I knew I could have relief and freedom from his control, to finally be in charge of your life without someone egging you to do this and don't do those. Freedom from fights and arguments...
When I opened the letter again, I read its full content. And I was right, the usual lies being recited again. Deep inside me, there was revulsion. Awakening within me the reasons why our relationship ended like that. His insensitivity wreaking my trust for him. My perception of him was no more significant with that of a stranger. You may think I'm bitter; but the thing is my feelings now are the result of how he had handled our breakup and my conviction to go away (with him trailing my footsteps).
Then again, both of us have moved on. No doubt this chapter of our lives have affected us. I must again ponder on it (which would be agonizing) and look back at it so that I could still revive the lessons that I have learned. By doing so, I would be able to look back without the pain but with the gratitude that I have picked something good out of it.
