Imelda as a maid. What a delicious irony... Far from being true as it seems, seeing the former First Lady complete with her glamor and "demure" as a maid is a paradox of the true Pinay. The Filipinas, portrayed in our classic literature as conservative, obedient yet independent-thinking, dressed in the crispy and formal Filipiniana, are now scattered around the globe, most of them are domestic helpers. To portray Imelda as such is like matching the old and the new, somehow like an old woman dressed in bikini. Imelda is a blast from the past (welcomed by dignitaries when setting foot in their country), while Pinays who are domestic helpers are beings of the present. The old can't fit the present and the new can never be the same as the old. Does it make any sense?
Seeing her as a maid makes us feel she deserves it (in a joke). But I think it's an insult for the Pinays who brave the foreign households (with others being maltreated and abused).
When I watch these videos, I laugh then I fell silent, laugh again and fell silent...
Yeah, the vids were funny but inside you feel something is not right...

**** I suddenly remembered today is the 35th anniversary of Martial Law Declaration, is that a coincidence or what?...
